Welcome to the first Wellness Wednesday email series - For the next four emails, we will be highlighting: Mindfulness!

We're starting off with the theme of Mindfulness, as this practice is so crucial for maintaining our overall well-being, especially now, amidst a global pandemic. With so much information/direction being shared with us, it becomes stressful to navigate through it all and take on what benefits our mind, body and soul. Take a few moments each day to assess which thought bubble in the image above you are practicing more: are you being mindful or mindfull?

What is Mindfulness?

According to Merriam Webster, mindfulness is the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one's thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.

Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress, increase focus, and improve memory and cognitive flexibility. Below are quick & easy challenges you can take on in your day to day to better practice mindfulness... Enjoy!

Taking a breather in times of stress has proven benefits. A practice taken on in the Army: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and exhale for 4 seconds. Repeat this three times. Use it next time you're stressed or preparing for a big moment.

Meditate at least 5 out of 7 days this week. As you train yourself to take on this practice, it doesn't have to mean sitting silently in a dark room. It can simply mean just being present in each activity you partake in from washing dishes to eating a meal, etc.
